1st XV host Liverpool University - 2nd XV travel to Lymm in The Raging Bull Plate

This coming Saturday the 1st XV host Liverpool University in a re-arranged League fixture at Station Road, 2pm KO. The 2nd XV are travelling to Lymm to face their 4th XV in the 2nd round of the Raging Bull Plate.

1st XV Captain Mike Cottam is confident of naming a strong squad for the game and is excited about the prospect of claiming 2nd in the League with no other South Lancs & Cheshire 3 fixtures due to be played this weekend. Liverpool University will obviously have different ideas and as the early pace setters at the start of the season they appear to be finding form again. As a young, fit and well organised side, our first ever meeting against them is likely to be an exciting encounter with both teams opting for open, expansive Rugby... Hopefully our backs will have spent some time learning how to catch after last weekend’s trip to Prenton!

Mike Cottam has the enviably selection headache of many key players returning from unavailability including Mark Macca, Si Davies, Kristian Clowes, Jedd Wragg, Darren Saffill and Ian Lightfoot as well as Paul Watson and Jimmy Ainsworth nearing full fitness. Hopefully we will also see the return of our young stars Antony Rainer and Josh Berry.

Full squad to be announced shortly.

With such a selection headache for the 1st XV, 2nd XV Captain Steve Hatton is sure to benefit from and will be able to firstly name a full squad, but also a strong squad for the trip to Lymm. Our 2nd XV are still unbeaten this season when they have fielded a full team and since Steve took over as Captain in October they have turned in some outstanding results, everyone at the club will be hoping they can continue this and progress to the next round of the Cup. Lymm will be a real test of our resources’, an excellent club through all the age groups. Their 4th XV contain a number of seasoned stars and also some outstanding youngsters, we will have to be at our very best to beat them and we are sure our 2nd XV will relish the Challenge.
