Latest news from Holmes Chapel RUFC

1st XV

The winning streak continued last Saturday as Holmes Chapel won through to the 3rd round of the Lighting & Building Services Plate with a 63-0 win away at Port Sunlight. The man of the match accolade this week went to veteran hooker Neil Almond, who delivered an excellent performance both in the tight and the loose. Chapel took a while to get going but once Mark Mcenaney had broken the deadlock the floodgates opened and the points racked up, despite stubborn resistance from the hosts. Mcenaney went on to complete his hat-trick but went and ruined it all by not honouring tradition and buying a jug after the match. Such behaviour could be expected of a back but was a very poor show from one of our forwards! There now follows an anxious wait to find out who the opposition will be in round 3, however if this form can be maintained Chapel will fancy their chances against anyone.

Full Match Report

"It's the biggest game of the season so far. We know that Crewe & Nantwich will come out swinging and that this will be a tougher game than we've had all season. We are more than capable of winning though if we show 100% commitment. We also need as much support as possible to take with us - supporting the players when they need you is as important as actually playing the game".

No prizes for guessing what Club Captain Tom Chambers was referring to. This Saturday sees the Blue & Gold travel to Crewe & Nantwich, also undefeated and level on points at the top of the table. Someone's perfect record will be history come Saturday night but Chapel will be doing everything possible to keep the streak alive. For such a big game we need everyone available and as much touchline support as we can muster. Do what you can to get to the match on Saturday, whether you are playing or cheering the lads on.

Tour V or not Tour V...that is the question...

Although Chapel’s very own Rob Moore (pictured) is not currently attending next year's tour (we know he will however), the debate remains in the club over whether or not he is a Tour Virgin? It’s true he has been on tour before, but unfortunately for him he only attended a couple of days on tour 1. This left the Tour Virgin Master, Biffa Watson, in an unprecedented position when Rob attended last years tour. In his wisdom he decided that Rob only had to do half of it as a virgin. Unfortunately for Rob, he did the wrong half and therefore the club is asking the following question:

Is he or is he not a tour virgin on his next tour? There’s currently a debate on the forum and you are asked to cast your vote!

Ask El Tel

More expert advice from everyone's favourite agony uncle...

Dear El Tel

I used to really enjoy playing for my local rugby club but over the last few years my Dad has ruined it for me. He’s always in The Swan after matches, insists on coming on tour every year, and even writes an occasional column for the club website. What should I do?

Spade Hands, On a tractor in Swettenham

Dear Spadey

All of the lads know the pain you are going through. They understand how difficult it is having a dad who is charming, sophisticated, well liked, witty, great company and who can have a good laugh even if he did used to be a girly footballer.

However it should be remembered that is more than balanced by the fact that it is always good to have a bank manager to go to when you have left your wallet at home/in the car/at me mates/in the hotel room* (*delete as appropriate).

Love and kisses

Dad Uncle El Tel
