Holwell move intended to secure high calibre players for the future.

Holwell Sports FC are pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with two local Junior Football Coaches, Stuart Worby and Jamie Stacey-Smith with a view to starting up an Academy style approach to harvest young players for the future of Holwell Sports FC.

In an innovative move to generate players for the long term survival of the club, Holwell Sports FC Chairman and Committee members met with Stuart Worby, along with members of the proposed Management Team which will administer the new venture as a Sub Section of Holwell Sports FC.

After reviewing the proposed business plan and understanding the long term benefits to the main club it was agreed that from season 2018/19 onwards Holwell will support an Under 13 age group application to play in the Saturday Junior Premier league which was conceived by large clubs from the Midlands, South England & Wales who were interested in developing players through enhanced coaching and higher quality matches.

The league is directly sanctioned by The FA which has given direct support in order to give players, not already in a professional club academy or centre of excellence, a chance to play and train at a higher level and so increase their chances of gaining exposure to the highest level of football possible.

Since starting two seasons ago the JPL has doubled in size each season and having secured a partnership with Nerf/Hasbro their aspiration is to bring top quality football across the Midlands, South England & Wales.

To be locally known as the Holwell Junior Football Academy, open trial sessions will be held in May to select an initial squad of Under 13 age group players who will compete in the above league.

It is envisaged that by playing matches on a Saturday morning, this will not have any adverse effect on players already aligned to Sunday Junior Football for the already established Junior Clubs in the area. Discussions have been held with local clubs, the consensus being that this initiative will help limit the draw and loss locally, of higher quality players to academies or higher ranked clubs based in Nottingham, Leicester and beyond whilst allowing them to maintain their allegiance to their Sunday football club.

Holwell’s Chairman Graham Lewin sees this venture as crucial to the long term production of quality local youth players giving them a clear exit route to higher level football as they reach the age whereby they can progress into the first team at Welby Road. As the initial group progresses through the ages other kids will join the process ensuring a stream of talent is maintained for future years to come.

Dates and Venues for the open trial sessions will be made available in the coming weeks.
