No doubt Holwell's local support will be looking forward to the attractive pre-season match at home to newly elected AFC Rushden & Diamonds FC as that club begins its re-bulding after the fall from grace of Rushden & Diamonds FC in 2010. The end of the 2010/11 football season saw the sudden and cruel demise of Rushden & Diamonds football club, after nineteen years of numerous highs and lows Rushden & Diamonds were expelled from the Football Conference and subsequently liquidated.

After re-establishing the new set up, a senior side has been registered to play in the United Counties Football League Div 1 for the 2012–13 season, with a very loyal support and this one of their first matches as a newly formed FA Level 6 Club, AFC Rushden & Diamonds are sure to bring with them upwards of 100 supporters to Welby Road as they pit their new squad against a more experienced Holwell side from the EMCL Premier Division.
