On the back end of our cup loss midweek we were faced with keeping the winning league run going against high flying Walton at the New Defence.
In what was always going to be a tough game , a sure start was needed but we had exactly the opposite . A stunning opening goal conceded on the ten minute mark set the tone for the opening exchanges and the second goal on twenty minutes from the penalty spot made any hope of a recovery unlikely.
The first half continued in the same manner as its opening and we were fortunate to only be two behind . The team looked off the pace and very much second best to our impressive visitors.
The second half showed that the team is able to compete with the best and whilst some of the possession may have been turned over due to Walton settling for their two goal advantage the Horley team certainly gave it a real go. The majority of the game was now being played in Walton's defensive third or the midfield area but chances remained at a premium and throughout the visitors carried a threat on the break.
With a quarter of an hour to go the best Horley chance fell to Karl Parker who should have scored with his head from the long throw that found him unmarked in the six yard box. To have any chance that needed to go in but with that opportunity spurned and serving as a wake up call to the visitors whilst we strived to find a way back we didnt really trouble Walton again.
A tough game but with some positives to take as we move on to the FA Vase.
