Hornets look to the Future - In headline news, Hornets RFC have appointed two young and exciting coaches ahead of the 2017/8 season.
Stephen Pape will take over the reigns as Head coach. Steve joins the Hornets following over 230 professional and semi-professional appearances for clubs such as London Scottish, Ealing Trailfinders and Hartpury College amongst others. He has also represented a host of England National sides from 18’s through to England Counties.
Steve will also bolster the playing ranks by adding considerable grunt up-front in his capacity as player coach.
An ambitious coach with over 10 years coaching experience, Steve is also well rooted in the Somerset area, having hailed from Taunton and held previous positions with Wellington RFC and North Petherton RFC.
It is from North Petherton that Steve now steps into the coaching shoes at the Hornets and on his last years experience with that club, he would personally like to extend his thanks to the players, supporters and the management at the club for making his time there so enjoyable.
He is now looking forward to the challenge of further developing a young, exciting squad of players ahead of their 4th season in National 3 South West, to build on previous seasons and push up the table.
Steve will be joined by Sam Cox who will be tasked with ensuring the Backs help deliver the attacking brand of rugby that the club’s supporters have become accustomed too. Sam’s impressive playing career began at Bath before moves to Bristol and Viadana. Sam has also spent time recently as player/coach both at Dings and Old Reds before retiring last year.
Both coaches bring with them a strong playing record and a hunger to bring further success for the club. They will oversee the next stage of the club’s development following significant investment in both its infrastructure and youth system over recent years.
Pre season training will start on Tuesday 27th June. We look forward to welcoming our existing players back after their time off as well as newcomers who are looking to join a young exciting team ahead of the 2017/2018 season.
