Horsley smash whiteley village by 5 wickets

HSCC match report.

With a heavy downpour of rain (and some alcohol) the night before we played the bottom of the league, many questions entered one’s head. How did one get home last night? Did someone put the covers on? Will one take wickets and make runs? All of these questions answered with hazy uncertainty over bacon and egg with a glass of orange juice, the temptation for hair of the bog pushing down harder than the headache of a consequence of the night before shenanigans.

Captain Hind won the toss on an exceptionally breezy day, with overcast conditions and elected to bowl. Tubman and Vamsi took the new ball and the former bowling with pace and unlucky to not get a wicket and the latter showing the control which he has possessed all season. Vamsi made the breakthrough with their opener missing a full toss and striking him on the pad, straight in front of all 3 stumps. The next wicket fell to a run out, with Toby Hernandez doing well to make sure he threw to the correct end. Their number four looked to accelerate the scoring and tried to force on that wasn’t there with Mole making great ground and showing good concentration in breezy conditions to take a good catch. Robinson came on to replace Tubman, bowling down the hill and with the wind really favouring his momentum. Their number 5 decided to charge him after one ball and ended up nicking off 2 balls later thanks to a stunning catch by Hind, sticking out a right paw behind the sticks and thankfully it stuck. Hafez, Dillon and Dennis all bowled well and all being rewarded with a wicket. Especially well done to Dennis who bowled an absolute corker, turning from middle and hitting top of off, think Warne to Gatting, Rashid to Kohli, Dennis to a number 9. Their number 8 hit a few good blows to finish 41* and they finished on 153 from 50 overs. Really well bowled to Vamsi and Tubman at the death, really restricting them and making sure the momentum stayed with us.
Tea: As always with Horsley a quality tea was put on. Experience was shown from Robinson, learning that taking 2 plates is now the way forward, one for savoury and the other for the sweeter things. On the subject of sweeter things (aside from Ella) special shout outs should go to the incredible lemon drizzle cake, and there were indeed scones. The author likes to think his match reports are starting to filter upwards in the club.
The simple task of knocking the runs off came after a brilliant tea, it started with a 2 of the first ball, then a dot and then a wicket. Thankfully, Hernandez and Dillon took control and Dillon especially pushing the scoring on, looking really good for 20 odd and being bowled by a pea roller. Worse than that, he had to then endure the Author chatting rubbish for the next hour or so. Abid and Hernandez settled in and unfortunately Toby chipped one back to the bowler to depart for a fine 20 odd too. Steve Isaac entered the crease and looked imperious, dispatching anything within in his reach (which is a lot, even Marlboro reds and tasty pints as one found out after the match). He made 50 in no time and set up the match win, but not before missing a straight one, and with Abid departing shortly after, a classic Horsley collapse was being set up. Thankfully, the biggest talent and best bloke at the club came in, to once again prove himself with a champion knock for a champion bloke. Making a tremendous zero red inker, to see Horsley over the line (well done Robinson). In all seriousness, well done Abid for making 20 odd, and Tubman finishing with red ink and hitting the winning runs,
We’re back to winning ways, lets continue like this and push for promotion!
