The fixture against Stamford was always going to be difficult and on the night it proved so.

A first half deficit developed into a second half end to end game with Hucknall earning a well deserved point with ten men.

In my opinion confidence is the vital factor and let us hope we can now move on and pick up some points.

Our chief executive Liz Morley has been very busy; we have a Charity match on the 23rd April with Notts County Legends playing Unity. We have also agreed a new partnership with Notts FA that will see their under 18’s team based at Watnall Road with their fixtures being played on Sundays, hosting their games will provide the club with extra revenue and is will help build the clubs presence within youth football.

We are also moving forward with the Education Scheme, we have 33 students enrolled on the program who have now completed their second full week of training.

Back to 2002/03 and with Phil Starbuck in charge. We commenced the season away at Barrow with a no score draw in front of 1300 fans; this was quickly followed by another draw with no goals against Gainsborough Trinity with a home gate of 319.

On the subject of gates, I would estimate our home attendance to average about 240 for the season even though some exciting football was on view.

Part way into the season we signed Clint Marcelle the man who scored the goal to put Barnsley into the Premier League; and what a character Clint was. An international with Trinidad and always had an eye for the main chance. My best memory of Clint was our home game against Accrington Stanley; earlier in the season I had had words with their Chairman when we lost 0-2 at Accrington and therefore a special bonus was available for the return game at Hucknall. The game was very fast and competitive with it looking like a 1-1 draw following a goal by Danny Mayman, however Clint was keen on his bonus and in the last minutes of the game a cross came out from the left wing and a volley from the edge of the box by the one and only sealed a great victory for ourselves.

Clint remained in touch for several years as he had apparently got into import and export and as I am visiting Trinidad this year I am looking to see if he has returned home… if anyone knows please advise.
