Dockers slumped to a disappointing defeat against a spirited Isberg side intent on recording their first win of the season.
After a tightly contested opening spell Dockers posted the first score of the game. A good passing move from Harry Inman and Joshua Pearson
sending Iyra Cooper Brice in to finish ten yards left of the uprights. A missed conversion but Dockers had started brightly. Unfortunately the score seemed to relax a confident Dockers side too much and some slack defence allowed Isberg to take the lead with a converted try on ten minutes 6-4.
continued his fine form with a well taken individual try. Selling dummies for fun on his way to the whitewash, a difficult conversion missed 6-8. With half time drawing near Dockers pressed their advantage further and good hands from Ally Tomlinson and Harry Inman sent Connor Key charging over for a converted try 6-12.
The green and whites couldn’t have had a better start to the second half when Harry Inman collected a quality pass from Joshua Pearson
to race 60 metres to score under the posts. Ally was accurate with the boot and Dockers were bossing the contest at 6-18. Great defence from Tom Lestan and Lochlan Fitzgerald pinning Isberg back into their own half time after time.
Looking like they thought they had the game won the team‘s defence weakened and the discipline we have seen so far this season slipped. Some silly penalties and lazy decisions letting Isberg back into the game. Parau Aizue continued to work hard but he was one of the few, Isberg taking advantage of a sin binning and further penalties to run out 24-18 winners.
From a coaching point of view the second half was very disappointing; we seemed to forget how to play the game completely. Our concentration and attention to the basics was none existent. Too many unforced errors and poor decision making will always put us under pressure and in the end we gave Isberg the confidence to succeed.
With a weekend off this week we need to re group and focus on training well. Only a concentrated effort over the next few weeks will put us back where we need to be…….winning!
