A sunny April 1st at Bricknall saw Dockers try to build on their win last week and the confidence gained from it.

A tight first ten minutes saw the green and whites contain an enthusiastic Wyke side led by some ‘big units’ in the middle of the park. Some interesting decisions from the referee put Dockers under some early pressure but this only served to fire up the away side as they shut out any chance of a Wyke score with some resolute defence. After this early pressure Dockers moved up field with real intent and a flowing move saw Connor Young support the centre and wing to score wide on the right. A difficult conversion was missed by Ally Tomlinson but it turned out to be his only miss of the morning!
That first score seemed to knock the confidence out of the spirited Wyke side and Connor Key capitalised on some great work from hooker Joshua Pearson and captain for the day Lochlan Fitzgerald to touch down close to the posts, Ally adding the two. Dockers went close again after man of the match Joshua Pearson took on the line and chipped over with the try line beckoning, only to be foiled by a neat take from Wyke.
Dockers continued with their expansive style and created a further try for the impressive Iyra Cooper- Brice on the right side. Ally nailed the conversion and Dockers were bossing the game, 0-16.

A well deserved lucozade break didn’t halt the green and white tide as Iyra Cooper- Brice scored his second after great yards from Ben Matos-Gois and Brad Carter, both players stepping up to the mark to cover for their suspended captain. Capping a solid display at loose forward Harry Inman scored an opportunist try after Wyke had knocked on and then stopped moving, the referee allowing play to continue for another score; 0-26.

Dockers were now dominating every facet of the game and again shipped the ball through hands to give Iyra his hat trick close to the uprights; 0-32.

Despite a late and dubious sin binning the green and whites kept a clean sheet for the third time this season. The zero more than anything is very pleasing to the coaching team.

Today’s game was a near perfect display of skill, passion and team spirit and the boys deserve to be where they are……top of the league! Some tough games are close on the horizon and the spirit and confidence will have to be as good if not better than today in the coming weeks.
