Hull Dockers were unable to continue where they left off last weekend as they went down to a 34-26 defeat at champions Thatto Heath Crusaders.
Dockers trailed 22-12 just before the hour mark but two tries from man of the match Jon Eccles
and one from Jason Bowsley saw them snatch back
the lead. However a strong rally by the home side saw tem hit back to win the game with three late tries of their own.
The local side showed their intent as early as the fifth minute when Nick Powley latched onto the ball for a trademark try. Andy Kay
landed the conversion but it was a lead which lasted just four minutes as Thatto hit back when Dockers failed to deal with a cross field kick and Alex Trumper touched down.
The pendulum swung back the way of Dockers midway through the half when good approach work by Steve Sellars saw the hooker put in centre Anthony Tognola. Sadly for Dockers their defence leaked three tries in sixteen minutes to trail by the ten points.
Another Andrew Stott cross field kick was collected by Darren Woods for the first of his hat-trick of tries and which eventually won the game for his side. David Sanders, making his debut, then came up with a try when he took a Glen Holland pass on the sixth tackle. Quinn added both conversions but missed a late first half penalty.
It was the same for Dockers as the first half opened with Thatto winger Adam Cropper forcing his way over after a Dave Johnson break. It was then Dockers turn as Eccles crashed over twice in as many minutes in the same spot. Jason Bowsley added another in the same place and with one Andy Kay
goal Dockers were in front at 26-22.
The final ten minutes proved crucial as Thatto hit back to score three tries of there own and run out winners. Woods completed his hat-trick with two more in a three minute spell as Kieron Maddocks finished things off in the final minute.
This defeat saw Dockers drop to seventh in the table but in a group of seven teams on six points so still early days. The lads are on their travels again next week when they travel to Leigh East hoping for a return to winning ways.
