TV records clubs 20th birthday party but Rounders rumpus overshadows celebrations.

Club members turned out in force to meet the players and Chairman, Pat Wilson addressed them and KC fm TV as he led the 20th year celebrations of the opening of the Brantingham Park clubhouse. The players were put through their paces as they continued preparations for the new season that gets underway with the home game against Hartpury College on the 5th September.

The last two teams in N1

This week we finish with a look at London side Rosslyn Park and "local" rivals Wharfedale.

Rosslyn Park

Lovely place, apparently. Simmy wasn’t keen as I recall.

Wharfedale

Wharfedale is as close as we get to a local derby this season. It’s a lovely rugby club, with values that are challenged in this professional era. One of the best and most scenic clubs to visit and one of the worst places to play, if there is inclement weather. The club is based on players from the local farming community, it is always a tough uncompromising competition but after the match there is a traditional rugby clubhouse atmosphere.
The second string, the Foresters, have enjoyed a great deal of success in recent seasons. They are the perpetual winners of the Premier Merit league, though the Hawks have pushed them close on a number of occasions.
Wharfedale have been in N1 longer than any other team and despite its remote location runs 5 senior sides and 12 M/J teams.

Two separate teams travel to the coast this week-end to compete at Bridlingtons Dukes Park ground. Coach Alex Crockett takes a mixed squad to play Brid in a 15 a side session whilst Linus Penna and Adam Naylor are responsible for a squad involved in a 10s tournament involving local clubs.

Controversy surrounded the normally sedate world of rounders this week with the game between Ionians Ladies and Molescroft ending in a no result after there was a disagreement over the score posted by the home team.
I’s had scored a very commendable 26½, or 29 depending on who you believe, the ensuing argument and tears led to Molescroft taking their bat home without having an innings. A very unsatisfactory situation for all involved.
An expert in sports studies, who asked not to be named, told the Bugle that rounders is notorious for disputes and controversy and he was glad he only taught lads at Snaith.
