For girls wanting to try rugby for the first time, we are offering girls-only rugby sessions on Tuesday evenings 7pm till 8pm. These sessions are free of charge and are intended to introduce the basic skills required to play the game. Absolutely no experience is necessary!
When - and only when - players are confident enough to try playing an actual game, there are two options:
U11 players and younger
Girls in this age range are allowed to train and play in mixed rugby with the boys. Those that do, have a track record of performing outstandingly well and giving the boys a run for their money! There are existing mixed teams at every age group from U7s and above.
- Older girls
- Girls too old to play in the U11s have to play in all girls teams. The age groups for girls as defined by the RFU are U13, U15 & U18 and we are launching U13 and U15 teams with immediate effect in the 2016/17 season. An U18 team will follow as soon as possible thereafter.
If girls have played rugby at school and have the necessary skills and experience, they will be able to play proper rugby games immediately. A number of clubs in the region already run or are developing girls teams and meet up on a regular basis to play mini tournaments. Players from clubs with less than a full team are given game time in other teams, helping them gain experience and build their skills.
Girls rugby is very much a focus for the Club in the coming years. We want to offer girls the opportunity to play, enjoy and ultimately thrive through the confidence, cameradie and discipline that rugby offers youngsters.
You are very welcome to turn up to any session. If you have any questions, please contact David Reid on 07968 730072.
