HULL WYKE INCH AHEAD IN EVENLY MATCHED GAME
Tuesday 12th June 2012
Hull Wyke ‘Blue’ U8 Team vs Lamwath Lions U8 (Festival at Alderman Cogan)
The game saw an evenly matched performance from both sides, with end-to-end trys and a result that could have gone either way.
Lambwath began the attack, and although Billy and William leaped to Wyke’s defence, our opposition managed to score in this first set. Wyke quickly retaliated with a run from James then giving a great offload to allow a speedy try from Owen.
Billy, Sam, and Tyler continued the strong defence, but Lambwath managed to push over the line again. Drives followed from Sam, Nathan, Finley, Owen and Tyler, passing the ball to Nathan, who dived over and equalised.
The game continued in this way, as Lambwath scored twice more, although powerful defence from Morgan, Sam, Billy and Will kept them out at times. Further points from Wyke came from Billy and Tyler, leaving the scoreline equal at the break.
As the match re-started, Sam passed to James, who made some ground and threw out to Will who neatly scored. Our defence then stepped up with Liam joining the frayand Sam diving at Lambwath legs again and again. Will defended his far side and kept out the opponents, however Lambwath did the same and held back Morgan who almost reached the line.
Lambwath caught up again with another point, but a full-length run from Billy put us deep into their half, and Nathan dived over, following passes from Will and Sam.
As the game came to a close, Tyler, Liam and Finley continued the defence, but Lambwath gained one more, showing great offloading skills. James and Owen ran well for Wyke, and Sam touched down the ball, but was disallowed when his foot slipped into over the touch line. Finally Billy pulled Wyke ahead with one last try, subsequently stopping Lambwath from equalising by pulling their player into touch.
