Open Age team to join YML Division 1 for 2015 season.

Hull Wyke Rugby League are pleased to announce our Open Age first team have been accepted by the RFL Yorkshire Men’s League (YML), which sits within tier five of the RFL competition structure.

With the exciting new £200k clubhouse project and £80k pitch renovation work due imminently, this is a great new opportunity for our club and is an exciting new challenge to step up a level to the regional summer leagues, a move that is vital to retain a high quality playing squad at first team level.

Contrary to reports that we had pulled out of the Hull Open Age League due to being unable to raise a team, Hull Wyke have over 50 players registered in our Open Age section, a production line at youth level to carry on the legacy for many years to come whilst still actively recruiting quality players to improve our squads and enhance our growing reputation as a leading community club.

We are still committed to the Hull & District Open Age League with our current Hull Wyke ‘A’ team which gives our younger players an introduction and natural transition to the men’s game at local level, whilst retaining them within the club where they have played their youth rugby league.

Our initial involvement in the YML is an invite to compete in the Forty-20 Cup, a 12 team tournament that matches us against the top teams in Yorkshire at this level, 10 of whom are from the Premier League. Our inaugural Cup game is a home tie versus Sharlston Rovers on Saturday 28th February. Our league season will start on Saturday 11th April in YML Division 1 with a trip to York Acorn and will see us travel around all 4 corners of Yorkshire as well as a local derby v Beverley, who have also made the switch from the Hull Open Age League.

The league will be made up of 5 divisions plus an entry league. The Premier Division & Division 1 will be made up of 10 teams playing 18 fixtures and finish with a play-off Grand Final double header on Saturday 26th September. The action kicks off on Saturday 28th February with the annual Forty-20 pre-season cup involving 12 teams with the final to be held at Heworth on Friday 22nd May.

New for 2015 will be a Summer 9s competition to be held in August.

We look forward to your support in the new leagues, further details can be found on our website http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/hullwykearlfc/ and our social media pages.
