Former Wyke junior extends Super League deal.

News broke this morning that former Hull Wyke youth player, Josh Bowden had secured a new deal with Hull FC.

Capping off a great year that saw him called into the England Knights squad.

Josh is testament to what players can do if they set their goals high, train hard, have the right attitude and commitment, but most of all listen to their coaches !!

Hull Wyke are very proud of Josh and hope he is the first of many to grace the Super League and other elite levels on a regular basis.

Hull FC have announced a new deal for promising young England Knights forward Josh Bowden, who will remain with the club until the end of 2016.

The 22-year-old has penned a new two-and-a-half year deal after an impressive 18-months in Black and White.

Establishing himself as a regular in the front row this season, despite stiff competition from the likes of Knights team mate Liam Watts and new signing Feka Paleaaesina, the former Wyke youngster has built on his 2013 season that saw him receive his first international call-up.

Speaking to hullfc.com this week, Bowden said, "I'm really glad to sign a new long term contract with the club.

"It's always been my intention to stay at Hull, they're my home town club and I couldn't see myself playing anywhere else at the moment.

"I was made aware of one or two other offers that had come in for me, but that has never crossed my mind. I'm only focused on playing for Hull and playing well and it's pleasing to have been rewarded with a new deal."

He added, "I have really enjoyed the season so far and I like the way we are going and developing as a squad and a club.

"I can see us moving forward under Lee, which made it that much easier to sign on. It was a very easy decision for me, I am really happy here."

With Bowden rising to prominence in his 25 Super League appearances so far, head coach Lee Radford is thrilled to have tied down another home-grown player for the foreseeable future.

"You can see what we're trying to achieve here in the squad we're building with deals for players like Josh, Jamie Shaul, Tom Lineham, Ben Crooks and Chris Green, all young players with big futures ahead of them.

"It's great that the players can see that too from within our camp and understand what it means to play for Hull, so it was very straight forward with Josh.

"He wants to be a Hull player, he is a Hull lad and he is starting to show us that passion and enthusiasm in the way he is playing for us, which is something you can't sign or coach into a player, it's invaluable."

He continued, "We're looking to build a squad around these players. We have a couple of good young half backs, Danny Houghton, Joe Westerman, Chris Tuson and Jordan Thompson are still young despite the number of games they've played.

"It's really pleasing to see players like Josh and Jordan stepping up already in the front row, a position which doesn't normally see players mature in until much later in their career, but their showing they can match it with anybody.

"It all bodes very well for the future and we're delighted that Josh wants to be a part of that."

Bowden has made seven Super League appearances in 2014, scoring one try.
