With players Reece Johnson and Peter Ferguson both drafted in on the match-day, they proved to provide the cutting edge for victory.

Hundhill were put in to bat first, with the innings beginning with an incredibly shaky start, losing both openers within the first 3 overs.

However, Reece Johnson and John Pinder both successfully steadied the ship, with Reece making an impressive 20 before he was run out.

With Ryan Langley and Craig Murphy both dismissed LBW, a true captain’s innings and an outstanding partnership between John and Steve, taking the team from 77 to 202, with the job more-or less done when John chipped the ball back to the bowler.

Rothwell, chasing a respectable216, got off to a decent start, with dropped catches preventing a desired early breakthrough, with Peter Ferguson finally breaking the opening partnership 13 overs in.

Hundhill were again made to wait for another wicket, with Steve Simpson dismissing Tony Gardner 6 short of his 50.

With momentum gained, the wickets continued to fall, with Reece Johnson combining well with Chris Walton to create a run out after a dropped catch. Steve Simpson earning two wickets at the other end in the meantime.

Rothwell had some hope in their captain, until two wickets in three balls from Reece Johnson, including two cool catches from Steve and Peter (making up for earlier drops), left him 3 short of 50 and Rothwell, 57 short of their target with just two wickets remaining.

And in the next over, it was Hundhill’s wicket keeper’s turn to make amends for an earlier drop, taking a catch from the bowling of Peter.

Within the next over, the game was over, with Reece Johnson’s bowling guaranteeing Hundhill 10 points from their first game.

Well done lads :)
