Eighteen volunteers plus the generosity of local firms and professionals kick start the project
The project was approved by our landlords, Hungerford Town Council, on 7th September. The project immediately swung into top gear.
1. The first team lifted 70 paving slabs as part of their Thursday training
2. Peter Hawkins of Gibbards completed the groundworks on 9th September.
Groundworks in layman speak is digging out the foundations
3. A volunteer army – more below – mixed and laid seven tons of concrete, that formed the foundations
4. Brian Gerhadt from Owl Construction – inspected and approved all of the above
5. Matt from A4hire – laid the first course of blocks and bricks to get us up to ground zero (damp course level)
6. A work party dug out the area inside the brick wall, and then laid a sand base – on the 26th September
7. Ready for a concreting mixing crew to lay the slab on the 3rd October. This is the concrete floor for the new porch.
