Chippenham could be kicked out of the FA Cup today and end up being docked points in the league after it was revealed that the club had fielded an ineligible player this season in full-back Curtis Jack.
The Bluebirds reacted to their off-field woes by beating Hemel Hempstead Town 4-1 at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday and skipper Williams says that the Chippenham players won’t dwell on whatever sanctions are imposed on the club.
“It’s been a funny week and in certain aspects you are gutted for the club, the amount of money it generates and the buzz it puts around the place,” said the Bluebirds midfielder.
“Predominantly, our focus is the league and we’ve got to wait and see if we’re deducted points but we’ll keep going and crack on.
“As soon as we turned up and were told what had happened, in some ways there was relief because there are worse things that could have happened.
“The board have been great and kept us in the frame, letting us know exactly what’s going on, so we just want to get on with it.”
Williams added: “We can’t do anything else but go out there and get three points - that’s all you can ask for.
“Whether it’s good, bad or ugly, all we want to do is put three points on the board and we think that we’re capable of beating any team in the league.
“We’ve got a great team spirit and we’re a close bunch of lads so all we can do is put that on to the pitch.”
