Although this competition was not at the top of our priorities, it nevertheless gives us continued cup interest after our exit from the FA Cup and FA Trophy and we await the draw for the next round with interest, perhaps a home draw with a Premier League side or another local derby.
shot wide with an early free kick, but we took the lead after 17 minutes when Gary Horgan hit the post and Mark Draycott was there to turn the loose ball into the net. It was soon 2-0 when Sean Wood’s free kick deceived the defensive wall and flew past Arron Carter in the home goal and Sam Hamilton’s shot was just off target, before a terrific Draycott shot made it 3-0 after 42 minutes.
We continued to control the game after the interval and it was no surprise when Luke Hopper ran onto a through pass and drove a scorching shot into the net after 50 minutes. There was worse to come for the home side when Draycott flicked in a spectacular shot to complete his hat trick after 58 minutes and he made it a four-timer in the 90th minute to end Thatcham’s miserable evening.
