As you may be aware the Bradford Premier League struggled to assign league umpires to all fixtures last season. In an effort to resolve this situation the League have requested all clubs to nominate at least 1 new umpire. Any clubs failing to meet this requirement may incur yet to be determined penalties.
As a League umpire you would be asked to commit to a minimum of 12 -14 games per season, but if you are able to commit to the whole season all the better.
The League can arrange appointments so that umpires officiate at grounds local to where they live, if necessary. The League covers a wide area so they do not expect umpires to be able to attend every ground.
Full training will be given by attendance at ECB ACO Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses. These two courses prepare the umpire for role of Club and League Umpire by explaining the laws of the game and how to apply them on the field of play. There will be no examination at the end of the course. The Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses will be run on two successive Saturday’s, (probably 10.30 – 17.00 on each day). Courses will be arranged to run in January and February on 2 successive Saturday’s.
THE COST OF THE COURSE FEES WILL BE PAID FOR BY THE LEAGUE as they realise the need for the increase in umpire numbers. The course fee will cover the cost of all the resources needed for the course and also include first year membership of ECB ACO. (There will be no cost to the candidate). There are several benefits to ECB ACO membership, primarily the comprehensive insurance scheme applicable to all members. All members require a current DBS certificate (for those that do not already possess one), which is cost free and forms will be provided at the courses.
If you think this could be for you but want to know more about what is required, an information evening is being held by two Level 2 qualified umpires at Carlton Cricket Club on 27th November at 7:30pm.
If you are interested in umpiring this is a great opportunity to have free training and to help your club satisfy this League requirement. Please contact Brian Calverley for more details.
