Club History

Hunters Hill Junior Rugby Club is affiliated with Hunters Hill Rugby Club, one of the oldest and most well known rugby clubs in Australia. Commonly referred to around Sydney suburban and junior competitions as “Hillies”, the club was officially established in 1892. The club has had a constant association with suburban rugby in Sydney over this period of time, for many years a prominent feature in the Sydney First Grade suburban competition winning numerous Kentwell Cups.

In the 1970s the junior club ceased to exist, much to do with a changing demographic in the area but by the mid 1990s once again local boys, many of them the offspring of “old boys” were looking for a game of rugby with a local team. In 1997 Hunters Hill Juniors reformed, fielding two teams in the North Shore competition. Again, a changing demographic in the Hunters Hill / Gladesville area has seen tremendous interest and growth in the junior club, that in season 2008 saw the junior club field 27 teams in Metropolitan North Zone (MNZ) and Gordon Mini’s rugby competitions, the biggest junior rugby nursery in Australia. 2009 was another landmark year which saw a record number of “Hillies” teams make MNZ finals & grand finals. Hunters Hill Juniors is now one of the BIG 4 junior clubs in Sydney.
