Gordon Ascroft sadly passed away peacefully yesterday, and will be hugely missed by the rugby community at Stags and in the East Midlands generally. Gordon was a Past President of both Huntingdon & District Rugby Club and the East Midlands, as well as serving as an East Midlands referee for many years. He gave his name to the Gordon Ascroft Trophy to be presented to the winning senior sub-district team within East Midlands, and it is fitting that plans are well afoot to resurrect this competition between Northampton Alliance, East Northants, Bedfordshire and Hunts & Peterborough this May.
Gordon’s funeral is at Yelling Church on Thursday 22nd February at 2.30pm. Chris (Bazza) has requested that people don’t wear black and you are all welcome back to the farm for refreshments and reminiscing after the service.
Our thoughts are with the Ascroft family at this sad time - Gordon will be fondly remembered by everyone lucky enough to have enjoyed his company.
