NEW FOREST PRESIDENTS CUP

Quarter-Final

Hythe & Dibden vs New Milton

Played @ Jones Lane ~ Thurs 15th June

On a lovely evening at Jones Lane a good crowd turned up to see if Hythe could topple Premier League New Milton in the Presidents Cup.

Its the first time Hythe have entered in 5 years and along with Sway being the only Hampshire League sides in the competition there was never any expectations.

Richi won the toss and Hythe elected to bat. Watts & Gagaro bowled well and the Hythe openers were getting frustrated after scoring just 9 off 4 overs. By the 6th we had moved onto 26 but lost Matt Howe for 4. Newcomers Peruzzi keen to impress also went cheaply but Richards 14, Meredith 21 & Mason 13 gave Hythe some hope.

Lee Beck turned in 4-13 at the death & R.Huissey 2-20 but it was Josh Arnold 2-13 who caused most damage. Hythe 108-9 off their 18

Easily 20 runs light with the ball Hythe gave it a good go with some excellent fielding and fine bowling. New Milton did get off to a fine start through Tom Arnold & Lee Beck and the predictions on the side lines was all over in 9 overs. However after Deacon got hit for two sixes Mason & Peruzzi turned the screw. New Milton were 40 -0 off 6 when Tarin Mason came in for his second over and took one of the finest hat tricks Jones Lane had witnessed. He bowled L.Beck for 36, Will Crossley for 0 and the hat trick ball had skipper Ryan Beck caught behind by Matt Howe.

Sadly though A.Hussey settled down with Arnold to add 38 for the 4th wicket with Arnold. Hussey making 24 before being caught by Ahmadzai off Peruzzi. Wakefield was run out for 7 before Arnold 36* & R.Hussey 5* saw New Milton home with 9 balls remaining.

Very good game and thanks to Mike on the bar & Steve Taylor on the barbe a good night was had by the club.
