H&D B Trounced

Winchester Vets 175-2 H&D 'B' 54 a/o

As Meatloaf once said ' Two out of three aien't bad' as two of our sides won on Sunday evening but this one was a shocker.

Ok the Winchester Vets side is filled with ex Southern League players. Colin Wheeler though must be 60, Phil Gray 20 years ago probably the finest keeper in Hampshire so surely our young guns, fit and healthy had a chance.

The Vets elected to bat first T&E's James Taylor & Hursley Park's Chris Wheeler put on 47 before Taylor retired at 47. Wheeler then retired when the score was on 62 but he should have gone much earlier when Steve Cox juggled the ball half the width of the pitch before dropping it.

At 97 in just the 7th over ~ Hythe did get a wicket when Coxy had Greetham caught on the back wall by Gary Dyer for 18. Poor old Coxy went for just 12 off the over but it was too good for George and he wasn't bowled again.

Nick Wheeler retired 28*, Eithen Taylor 27* as the Vets piled on the runs but the best was still to come. Mr Reliable Gary Dyer's last over went for 30 as the Vets finished on 175-2 . Poor old Gary 0-57 off 3.

Hythe in reply just didn't get going and if it wasn't for Aaron Oliver's 28 id have been crawling out. Steve Cox was first to go stumped for 1 by Phil Green. ' I would never have whipped them off that quick' said Coxy. Sanderson & Oliver added 27 before George was ct & bd by Taylor for 7.

Gary Dyer & Scott Rollinson both made two a piece whilst Kev halved their score. Oliver was 5th man out for a fine 28 but Hythe were well beat and all out for 121.

Guess who the B team play in the 2nd round of the Cup !!! An improvement needed with Paul Marks to come into the Vets side.
