H&D 1s Start With Win
H&D 1s kicked off their season with a 4 wicket win over Alton.
Hythe & Dibden started their season with a positive display against Alton 2s.
Skipper Tom Richards started as he left last season with another successful coin toss, sticking Alton into bat.
A rusty first few overs in the field soon disappeared as Hythe turned on the gas with Ahmadzi smashing the pads before going up & getting the dismissal. He then got one to jag & bowled J.Paul for 11; before Mighty Mike deservedly got in on the act with another successful LBW shout. Alton 31-3 & Hythe on top. That brought M.Salmon to the crease who immediately got the run rate going with adventurous shots over cover & strong punches down the ground. However the opening bowling pair both finished their respective spells with credible figures; Ahmadzi (7-2-27-2) & Mighty Mike (6-1-17-1).
With the odd flurry from batsman Salmon; Peruzi (7-1-20-0) & Royan (10-2-29-1) bowled with great control & discipline which put immense pressure on at the other end which proved pivotal as convict Wakely got in on the act with dazzling figures (10-4-14-3). He was a very happy man was Wakely. Richards (6-2-19-1) & Gates (3.4-0-11-1) also contributed to close out the Alton innings, which in all fairness could of been 30 runs lighter. Never the less a decent first performance with the ball & in the field from the Hythe lads. A lot of credit to all the bowlers for sticking to their plans & being positive throughout the innings.
After a lovely tea & 25 minutes recovery time, the boys got the pads on.
Tom Gates & Matt Young opened up for Hythe & got some rotten luck with Gatesy getting a Nardus Grobbler, the only delivery which didn't bounce all day, Hythe 9-1. Other debutante Wakely didn't take long to get used to Jones Lane & clattered the ball to most parts of the ground before departing for 28, meanwhile Young calmly going about his ways at the other end looking in solid touch rotating the strike. Skipper Richi played round an in-swinger, which brought Howe's That to the crease. He looked in fine fettle & he & Young kept the scoreboard going with a 49 run partnership before Howe was judged LBW. Peruzi the bludgeoner went to town on the Alton bowling & along with M.Young who eventually fell for a fine 48; pushed Hythe closer to the target. Bedfords (0) went cheaply, & Hakim getting a slice of luck at deep long-on meant squeeky bum time @ 119-5. In comes Wayne who was one cool customer, brought ease to the lads on the boundary by rotating the strike & calming down a pumped up Hak, got the lads comfortably over the line with 18 overs to spare & 4 wickets in hand (Hak 28* / Royan 8*).
A game played in good spirits & thanks to Alton & the panel umpires Bill & Mark for ensuring that. Onto Saturday 12th, where the 1s travel to recently promoted Easton & Martyr Worthy.
Massive Thanks go to Chivvy for all the prep work he put in & for producing a decent wicket considering the recent weather we have had during pre-season.
Thanks to Dawn / Simon Dixon for their continued support off the field helping to prepare drinks & Teas.
