Run Fest @ Jones Lane as H&D Beat Ropley
518 runs scored, 2 Hythe players in hospital and the coach & chairman on as 12th & 13th man
An action packed day @ Jones Lane against the league leaders Ropley.
Richi won the toss and sent the unbeaten 5-0 side into the field. Hythe got off to a solid start of 39 off 9 when Matt Young was caught near the boundary for 9.
Inzi Agha still on Ramadan looked in good nick and with skipper Tom Richards added 28 for the 2nd wicket before both batsman ended up at the same end and Agha had to go ~ out for 32. The 100 came up in the 23rd over but not before Sam Redford pulled up with a ruptured Achilles and was taken straight to A&E.
That brought Tarin Mason to the crease ~ still buzzing after his hat-trick in mid week against New Milton. Both players brought up fifties the with the score on 220 in the 40th over ~ Richards fell caught for a very good 63. Mason went onto score a fine 99 before being caught in the 46th over. Archie Gilbert hit 22* as Hythe took the score to 298 at the close and a shattered Ropley left the field in a quiet mode.
After tea Ropley kindly let first team coach Syd Shirazi field as a 12th man for Redman and he was soon joined by Chairman Ian Prentice after Aaron Oliver was hit in the face and taken to A&E. The Ropley openers started well and Wood & Stennett put on 39 in 10 before Mason with his first ball dismissed Stennett for 20. The dangerous Wood then fell at 55 caught by Meredieth off Agha. Stovell dismissed Fuller for 12 lbw and Aussie Jack Ireland made 28 before the Howe / Mason combo struck. Ropley 97-4 off 22.
The Ropley innings then revolved round skipper Alex Stogdon who are lads described as the best innings they've seen this year. Whilst losing the wickets at the other end he was in competition with Jonjo who was giving runs away.
Finally though with the score on 216 Stogdon fell 9th wicket bowled by Ahmadzai for 94. Terrific Innings and beating Jonjo by 12.
Tom Richards grabbed 3 wickets before Ahmadzai finished off the game with a Howe catch behind. Ropley all out for 220 in the 46th over.
Hythe win by 78 runs and a great effort by their 13 men. Thanks to Becky for scoring 7 Ian for umpiring in scorching heat.
