Batting Lacklustre From 2s
Froggie was disappointed with a lack lustre batting performance which cost them vs Burley
Hythe and Dibden 2nd XI through away a chance to gain on the leaders in County 4 with a lackluster batting performance against Burley.
Burley were put into bat and it wasn't long before Hythe made in roads into the line up as Gary Dyer struck in his 1st over .. Mike Bowman followed 4 overs later with a wicket maiden as both openers were back in the pavillion with the score on 19. Alex Martin dug in for Burley as the wickets fell around him and at drinks burley were under pressure at 72 for 5 . Within 3 overs that became 78 for 7 and Hythe were looking for an early finish as Ross Livermore took 3 quick wickets in his 10 over spell. At 98 for 8 a catch behind the stumps was not heard by the umpire and with the Batsman controversially standing his ground Hythe didn't get to the Burley number 11 until the score went onto 133. Young Charlie Clamp played well and with Alex Martin (63 not out) pushed the Burley score up to 158 at 45 overs. Normally a modest total on a Hythe Deck used to 200 runs +.
After another large Hythe Tea... Hythe set about the chase at 3 runs an over but Lost Andy Murkitt with the score on 38 Luke Mills struck on the arm by a Jamie Meridith drive retired for a while ..James Page joined Meridith and things looked to be progressing towards a Hythe win but the run rate was not climbing above 3 and overs were running out.. The urgency did not compute somewhere and with some straight Burley bowling, Hythe started to tighten up as pressure built. The run rate climbed and although still in the game after 38overs with the score on 119 for 3. The acceleration never came as Hythe lost wickets consistently over the next few overs to finish 8 runs short. Pick of the batting was Jamie Meridith's 70. But in truth this was a game lost due to poor batting ..Hythe needed to chase at a higher rate early on and rotate the strike better to get in front of the rate .. It was all left to late..
A big thank you to Tina for helping with the teas this week...Away in Bournemouth next week.....
