2s Sign Off Shocking Month With Win
After 3 defeats H&D 2s beat rivals Fawley by 39 runs. Nick Shrive scoring 87* George Sanderson taking 5-35
Hythe 2nd team finally won in August after a barren spell of results..
Hythe travelled to local rivals Fawley for the last game of the season and won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a flat track..
Matt Howe and the in form Nick 'Gun' Shrive opened the batting and after a tentative start Matt showed his class and pushed the scoreboard upto approx 100 off 25 overs . At 107 Matt fell for a well made 67 falling Lbw to Perry.. Sanderson put on 60 with Nick for the 2nd wicket going for 22 of the bowling of Chris Tona's son Riley... 3 wickets then fell quickly for 13 runs as Tongs , Thompson, and Scott Rollinson came and went chasing quick runs... Greg Livermore blasted 16 runs of 9 balls and Nick Finished on 87 runs Not out (should have had a ton) and the Hythe Innings finishe on 214 for 5 after their 45 ..
Tea at the Bowls club as Fawley rebuild there own facilities inside some existing buildings was very pleasant.. (May take up bowls after all the criticism this year..)
Hythe opened up with Chalky and Ross Livermore this week and bowled tight lines as the Fawley batsman failed to pierce the aggressive fields set by the skipper..Chalky struck in the 10th over having Painter caught at mid wicket by Greg Livermore in what can only be a worldy catch..
The Introduction of George Sanderson changed the game in terms of wickets in the 24th with the score on 63 Doe was caught by Gareth in the Gully for 12.. With the scoreboard going nowhere Skipper Tona hit a few boundaries to make a chase of it.. but the slow offspin of Thompson ( and i mean slow) coaxed 1st Tona and then Coxall to shots that induced catching practice for the Hythe fielders.. Nothing dropped today except for a Guru slip chance...(sharp one though) Forster 23 offered some resistance as the Fawley wickets fell in what looked like to be an early finish.. Hythe were denied that by 10 and 11 for Fawley as Hythe couldnt get the last wicket R Coutts controlled the strike and Riley Tona put on 48 for the last wicket.. Coutts 38 Not Out Tona 18 Not Out at the end as the Fawley Innings ended on 175 for 9 off their 45..
Enjoyable game played with a bit of banter at times...
The season is over and lets be honest not the best for a Hythe side that should have done a lot better and been up there challenging .. The win over Verwood was the Highlight and proved we were one of the best sides in the league that finished 11th.. Its a new captain next year and no doubt there will be changes in the personnel but the signs should be good as long as the 1st team continue to grow and players are released to the 2nds... I predict a promotion year is on the cards....
Enjoy your winter.....
