1st Team Manager Allan Fenn shares his thoughts on the season just gone and his targets for next season.

Back in June last year, we set our targets for the season and they were to:

Finish in the top 5
Achieve 70 + points
Win some cup games
Reach a cup final
Be stronger when we finish the season then when we started.

I think you will all agree, we have hit four out of five of our targets and the season can be looked at as a success.

In all honesty, yes I'm proud of how far we have come bit it's also been a season of frustration and too many "what ifs and buts".

To beat Bowers twice, Basildon, Wadham Lodge, Sawbridgeworth & a few other sides so convincingly but then slip up to many teams in the lower half of the table has been tough to deal with at times but one thing this team certainly has is characters and no one can doubt the resilience and honesty of these lads.

When we have had a bad game, invariably we bounce back with a good win and that says a lot about the first team staff & squad.

The challenge for me and my staff now is to chase the holy grail of football, consistency.

We believe that with good coaching and our players fantastic attitude, they will be better players next season and with the experience of this season we will be a more consistent side.

We need to be more composed in the final third, be more efficient and clinical and defend better as a team.

We need two add two or three new faces but they have to be of real quality AND have the right attitude.

Overall, in the league our away form is once again better than our home form which is something that needs addressing.

Home P20 W9 D6 L5 F38 A22

Away P20 W12 D 3 L5 F48 A29

The players have now learned (albeit the hard way) that other teams perception of Ilford Football Club has changed and now everyone will raise their game against us.

We don't often get the rub of the green and we have seen many a controversial decision against us but that's where the challenge is.

To rise above everything that is thrown at you, never get down and get back off the floor swinging.

Our challenge is to ensure the players mindset is right before we play every game but we are confident and happy with this group and we are all looking forward to renewing pre season in June however; the phone calls have already started and good players are wanting to join us so it's up to the existing lads to raise their game.

After a two month well earned rest we will resume training on Tuesday 21st June and the detailed planning for each session is already taking place.

Friendlies are being arranged and off field talks with our new sponsor TCS are progressing really well.

For the record, our targets for next season are;

ESL Winners
Promotion to the Ryman League
Do well in the FA Vase
Improve our home record
Finish the season stronger than we started.

Please note our presentation evening will be held at the club on Saturday 14th May.

Finally, a huge thank you to all the people who have helped out and supported me and the lads over the last season.

There are simply too many to mention but I have to thank the people closet to me, my coaches, Morgs, Deano, Franco, Moody & Paul Belcher who support and put up with me on a regular basis.

It's been a pleasure people but this time next year I want PROMOTION

Have a great summer
