Allan Fenn hopes Ilford can end their goal drought when they visit fellow Essex Senior League side Burnham Ramblers in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Foxes have not scored in their last two matches, 0-0 draws away at Barking on Saturday and tenants Barkingside on Monday.

But the Cricklefield Stadium club have faced Ramblers twice this season, beating them 9-0 in the FA Cup, so Fenn should be confident Ilford will find the net this weekend.

Even after their recent struggles in front of goal, the Foxes boss remains confident in the options available to him going forward.

“We’re an attacking side and even in the last two games where we didn’t score a goal, we still showed we could be a threat,” said Fenn.

“We could have scored seven or eight against Redbridge last week (Ilford won 4-3) and could have had two or three against Barkingside.

“We’ll take it as it is and know enough about Burnham having played them twice already this season and three times since the end of April!

“Last time we played at their place, it was a little weird as it was our first game in three weeks so it was like we were meeting up again!

“They’ll be buoyant after a good win against Hullbridge Sports in the week and I’m happy for them as all their parents and girlfriends watch every game, which is great.”

Having put 12 goals past Burnham already this season, Ilford will head to Leslie Field as favourities.

But Fenn is quick to point out it will not be as easy for his side as it may have looked in their previous matches with Burnham as other sides continue to improve with every passing week.

“Early on in the season, we were a little more prepared than other sides, so going to Burnham will be tougher than when we played them in the cup almost two months ago,” added Fenn.

“Clubs have caught up with us in terms of mentality and physicality, you only have to look at the draw with Barkingside on Monday, who we beat 5-1 on the opening day of the season. We know it will be a difficult game.”
