Ilford round out season with draw away at Lower Road

Allan Fenn believes his Ilford team gave a good account of themselves in their 1-1 draw away to Hullbridge Sports.

Carl Mullings rescued a point for the Foxes in the 55th minute, his strike cancelling out a first-half own goal.

But Fenn was happy the club were able to put recent results behind them to put in a good display against a side on course for their highest ever finish in the Essex Senior League.

“I was really pleased. Hullbridge are fourth and fourth for a reason,” said the Ilford boss.

“They’re a good team who play good football but we restricted them to very few shot on target at their ground.

“It was also good to see so much passion from the boys as this stage in the season.”

The draw at Lower Road brought down the curtain on the Foxes’ season and Fenn believes it was a nice way to end the campaign.

“Everyone wants to win every game but we’ve had a tough run-in. All the teams we’ve played recently have been in the top half,” added the Ilford gaffer.

“We should have won against Barking and Takeley but we didn’t. It was a lot better against Hullbridge and despite missing a few players it was a good performance.”
