Ilford bring curtain down on season away to Hullbridge Sports

Allan Fenn is expecting Ilford’s last game of the season against Hullbridge Sports to be far from plain sailing.

Hullbridge are on course for their highest ever finish in the Essex Senior League as they sit fourth in the table.

When the sides met earlier at the Cricklefields Stadium earlier in the campaign Sports won 2-0 and Fenn believes it will be another tough match for his Foxes side.

“Hullbridge are a good side. They try to play the game right, so we have to get close to them and close them down quickly,” said the Ilford chief.

“But we’ll try to play football as well. They’ve got a good pitch down there and good surfaces seem to make us play better.

“We’ve got good technical players who can pass the ball well, but I’m also expecting a good effort and workrate from the boys.”

While Saturday may be his side’s final game of the season the hard work is only just beginning for Fenn.

The Foxes chief, alongside his fiancé, is taking over as manager of the Ilford Sport & Social Club from Monday April 20 in addition to his role with the Cricklefields club.

Although he admits it will involve a lot of effort Fenn says he is looking forward to the new challenge.

“I will be working hard decorating the clubhouse and getting it back up to standard before next season,” said Fenn.

“I’ve had players contacting me about next year already as well as sorting out the futures of the players currently at the club. We’re hoping to have a talented squad next year.

“It’s a big season for the club next year and there is going to be a lot of hard work into it.”
