The Foxes welcome Tons to the Cricklefield Stadium this weekend looking to go one better than when the team’s played out a 3-3 draw at the Old Spotted Dog in October.

It also sees Fenn go up against one of the teams he has previously played for, having enjoyed a happy spell with Clapton during his own playing career.

Both sides are steeped in history and Fenn hopes Saturday’s clash between the two sees them create some more with a thrilling game.

“I’m really looking forward to it – it will be a great local derby between two famous non-league clubs,” said Fenn.

“I captained Clapton in the past so they are close to my heart, but Ilford are even closer and are my only thought on Saturday.

“Recent games between us have been close, exciting matches and I expect it to be no different when we meet this weekend.”

Fenn will be urging his attack to keep firing having netted 14 goals in their last five games, of which Ilford have won four.

Last time out saw Carl Mullings get his name on the scoresheet as the Foxes beat high-flying Sawbridgeworth Town 1-0.

Others to have made a telling contribution to the Ilford cause in recent weeks are Glen Warwick, Luke Thomas and new signing Wale Odedoyin.

And Fenn is backing his front men to continue their impressive form againt Clapton.

“We have good creativity in the team. We have four or five players who create a lot which means we always pose a threat,” he added.

A bumper crowd is expected at the weekend, as Clapton fixtures have regularly attracted three-figure attendances this season.

Over 750 looked on when the Foxes visited the Old Spotted Dog on Non-League Day earlier this season and Fenn’s men fully embraced the special atmosphere generated by the ‘Clapton Ultras’.

Fenn expects Clapton’s travelling support to be in good voice again this weekend, adding: “It was a great experience for the team when we went there, because while we have a loyal fanbase at Ilford, it’s not the biggest.

“At times I’m envious of the crowd at Clapton. They’re always loud and really supportive of the team, which helps them.

“I expect they’ll bring a few over to Ilford because it is a local derby and I’m sure it will create a great atmosphere on the day.”

But Fenn will be hoping that it is the home fans with the most to cheer about come 5pm.
