Ilford assistant manager John Moody says the 2-0 defeat to Stansted was particularly disappointing because of the team’s performances in recent weeks.

Before the game the Foxes had only lost to promotion-chasing Haringey Borough and Bowers & Pitsea in their last seven games, pushing the pair hard.

But the display on Saturday was labelled as the club’s “worst of the season” which left Moody upset at full-time.

“We’ve done well the past few games but it was just a bad day at the office. We didn’t use the ball. We’re better than that,” said the Ilford assistant boss

“Stansted are a decent side, very similar to us. I thought we could have played the ball long less often. We did not put it wide or play it up to the front man,

“We played a 4-2-3-1 formation and it’s something we’re becoming used to. It looked like we’d made improvements but we went backwards on Saturday.”

The Cricklefields club have just four games remaining in the season, including another match against Bowers this weekend.

The second-in-command at the Foxes says the team will not be resting easy in the forthcoming fixtures and there is still hard work ahead.

“We need to go again, We need to train well and play to our strengths until the end of the season,” added Moody.

“The lads show heart and guts but it’s the technical side that wins you games. We didn’t look to play it on the floor against Stansted.

“We’ve been working on passing and movement in training but we struggled to transfer it to the pitch. We conceded two really poor goals, which is the last thing you need when playing bad.”
