PRESIDENT SHIELD MAY & BAKER v IWRFC

May and Baker RFC 0
Ilford Wanderers RFC 19
With injuries and unavailability stretching resources the Wanderers were in no mood to lose this tie against local rivals May and Baker scoring three first half tries that finished the game as a contest.Bakers had their fair share of possession and ball but with a limited game plan were unable
to breach Ilfords committed defence which has conceded only one try in the last four games.
Ilford were first on the offensive, pressurising Bakers 22 forcing Bakers offside. With advantage being played Ilford chipped to the corner for Centre Tom Clancy to pounce.
Again Bakers tried to force their way into the game through their forwards only to see Winger Carl Anka collect a kick and take off on a mazy run.
Some slick hands saw the ball move to Clancy, moving at pace and laying the ball inside to the other winger Alex Dean.
0-12 and although not out of sight it was starting to look ominous for the home side resorting again to an ineffective pick and drive game
which allowed Ilford to turn the ball over. Clancy attacked the right hand side and when he was stopped the ball was moved swiftly across the
front of the posts to a grateful loose head Jason Taylor.
Despite the inconvenience of a yellow card, Ilford shut up shop defensively, but still managed to take a scrum against the head to keep the
pressure on Bakers.
Taylor commented afterwards "Its great to be in the final but we will be up against a tough side, so we need to keep focus and make sure
our defensive record keeps progressing'
