A superb innings from Daniel Patchett saw the 2nd XI reach the Crossley Shield Final at the expense of Premier Divsion leaders Triangle.
The visitors batted first and made a solid start, reaching 83 for 1. Matthews Watson and Curran then ripped through the middle order, with a combined spell of 6 for 43, which saw Triangle struggling at 126 for 7. Some later order hitting by George Palin (45) saw the total reach a decent 217 for 8.
Having chased successfully in the previous two rounds, the 2nd XI were hoping to do it again. Key men Matthew Smith and Hamza Mehmood fell early on, before Liam Kelly steadied the ship with 51 off 59 balls. When Kelly fell at 102 for 4, the game was still finely balanced. Matthew Watson hit 29 off 10 balls before being caught at long on to give Illingworth some impetus and Asif Ali (34*) joined Daniel Patchett to put on an unbeaten 65 for the sixth wicket and see the side home. Patchett finished with 67* off 69 balls, after coming to the crease at 63 for 3.
Illingworth will host Blackley in the final, after they overcame Booth in the other semi-final.
The final will be at Illingworth on Sunday 19th August 2018.
