Depleted Ingles fall to defeat in a lacklustre performance against Belper.
A poor performance saw Ingles fall to a 3-1 defeat against Belper United in the East Midlands Counties League at the Dovecote.
With Ingles currently without a host of 1st player through injury, suspension and work commitments the squad was always going to be stretched for today game.
Belper took the lead in a scrappy first half through James Rushby, 5 minutes before the break. Ingles levelled early in to the second as Kyle Fowkes finished smartly from close range. Belper retook the lead as Rushby slotted home his brace from the penalty spot. Ben Gowing scored the third as he curled a free kick into the bottom corner from the left side of the 18 yard box. The game was plagued by fouls by both teams throughout the game and stoppages were given by the referee.
Ingles made two changed from the side that eased past Rainworth Miners Welfare a week ago, as Conor Bennett and James Brooks replaced Dom Watts and Marc Schulz. Belper made three changes from the side that lost 4-1 at home to Quorn in the FA Vase last time out, as Thomas Rushby, Louis Anthony and Ben Gowing came in for Niall Mather, Adam Robley and Samuel Vickers.
Ingles started the brighter and had a few good opportunities, coming from Sam Kee’s set pieces. His free kick on the fourth minute was well whipped in from the right, but not one Ingles player in the box could get on the end of it.
Belper, 5 minutes later, also had a chance from a free kick. Thomas Rushby’s effort from the left side of the edge of the box was cleared, which fell to Ryan Baker, but his volleyed effort was blocked resiliently by Billy Blackshaw.
Ingles had another chance from a set piece on 21 minutes. Firstly, Kee’s initial shot from the free kick was blocked by the wall, but it fell nicely to him and his strike from around 25 yards was well saved down low by Mark Rathbone in the Belper net.
Five minutes before the break, Belper did take the lead. Timothy Adcock provided some neat work down the left and he squared the ball across to Rushby, who calmly slotted the ball in off the post from around 12 yards out. The visitors went into the break 1-0 up.
Shortly into the second half on 53 minutes, Ingles equalised. It came from good work down the Ingles left hand side and Fowkes turned the cross goal bound and it trickled into the right hand corner following a hand from the Belper keeper Rathbone.
Just nine minutes later, Belper went back in-front. It came from the penalty spot as Rushby was bought down by Jack Green. Rushby slotted it home for his brace into the left hand corner past Buchanan who went the other way. This was Rushby’s 10th goal of the season in all competitions.
Just a minute later, The Derbyshire side should’ve been 3-1 up. Ryan Baker rounded Buchanan on the edge of the 18 yard box but his left footed effort was intercepted on the line.
Belper did eventually open a two goal advantage, which was on 73 minutes. Ben Gowing’s right footed 25 yard free kick from the left side of the box went through a crowd of bodies and into the right hand corner of the net. Buchanan was not able to get a strong enough touch to stop it from nestling into the net.
Shortly after, Ingles had a glorious chance to pull a goal back, Fowkes’s goal-bound effort was well tipped over by Rathbone to deny him.
Ingles pushed and created some pressure to mount a comeback but lacked a clinical edge on the day. Belper though, held on for a 5th league win of the season, moving themselves up a place to 13th in the meantime. Two places behind 11th placed Ingles who have lost for the first time in three games after winning back to back. Ingles next up face Leicestershire Senior League side FC Khalsa in the Leicester and Rutland CFA Jelson Senior Cup on Tuesday 23rd October for a 7:30pm kick off.
