Inverness Craig Dunain Rugby Club

Bruising Start

Craig lost by 63 points in Invergordon in atrocious weather conditions this past Saturday. The score line, though it sounds heavy, doesn't really tell the entire story.

There were quite a few positives to take from the game against superior opposition and all of Craig's players have now been given an indication of the kind of intensity they need to bring going into the new season.

There was definitely evidence of ring rustiness after 5 Months without a game as tackles were missed and basic defensive duties neglected. Ross Sutherland are well coached side who have some classy players and they ruthlessly exposed any mistakes that the Inverness side made.

Encouragement must be taken from the fact that as the game wore on Ross had to up the quality of their play in order to break down the Craig defence.

The scrum and lineout went well and there was a marked improvement in how well the breakdown was contested as the game wore on. Man of the match Paul Sanderson (on his debut) epitomised this.

All in all this was a decent start to the season as there are very few sides of the calibre of Ross Sutherland in our league and this was a lesson in how doing the simple things well can lead to success.
