3rd XI Invincibles take centre stage

Ipplepen CC celebrated the 2017 season with their annual Dinner & Dance on Friday. A mix of sixty players, members and parents enjoyed each other’s company, a fantastic meal, and Presentations at Dainton Golf Club, following a season which saw solid performances from the Senior teams.

The undoubted stars of the evening, however, were the 3rd XI “Invincibles” who finished the season as unbeaten Champions of the Devon D 2nd XI league, having won all of their matches. It is a great achievement for a team that used 32 players of all ages and experience, never plays at ‘home’, and often doesn’t know its team until Saturday morning! Proud skipper, Alan Boon, gave a summary of the season and presented awards to Player of the Year – Keith Bell, Batsman of the Year – Dave Alsop, and Bowler of the Year – Harry Lewis.

The 1st XI won the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup, and finished 4th in Devon B Div, while the 2nd XI also finished 4th in Devon B 2nd League, to be well positioned next year when the All Through league is introduced.
1st XI Player of Year – Jack Lewis, Batter of Year – Mawgan Penrice, Bowler of Year – Will Gornall.
2nd XI Player of Year – Steve Harris. Batter of Year – Callum King, Bowler of Year – Ben Forsey

Sunday XI enjoyed their year and performed well with a young side. They included the first ladies to play for an ICC League side - Jess Hine, Ella Sampson and Molly Jeffrey.

U17 Reuben Stanley was awarded the Captain’s Cup for most improved player in senior cricket, having scored 282 runs at 21, and taken 12 wickets at 23 during his first season of 2nd XI cricket. Century Ties were awarded to Keith Bell (125* v Cornwood), Jeff Heath (125* v Bridestowe), Callum Thomas (104 v Whitchurch), and Harrison Gorny (108 v Cannock).

Thanks were given to the new, and long standing, volunteers who had helped out with the huge number of jobs now associated with the Club, and despite strong challenges, the Volunteers of the Year were Dawn and Marcus Green. Dawn has managed Membership for the Club and kit for the juniors, while both have been ever presents at Friday Club Nights, where Marcus has flipped hundreds of burgers as King of the BBQ.

The final award of the evening was Clubman of the Year, and after more than 15 years of Committee service as Secretary, Fixture Secretary, Treasurer and most recently Chairman, the award was presented to Matt Quartley – and long overdue it was too.

Thanks for a great evening everyone.
