Ipswich headed to the re-arranged Bury St Edmunds Under 8’s tournament at Culford with two teams excited with the challenge ahead. The Ipswich 1’s team started slowly but warmed to their task in the baking sun. Bea, Millie, Elias, Elliot and Charlie worked really hard and put in some strong performances against some much older opponents. Even when under pressure, they played positively and showed true grit and good sporting ethics. The Ipswich 2’s came second overall, with Anya, Stella, Izzy, Rudy and Alex all putting in a strong performance. They put in a great team display throughout, even when under the pump against a vocal home team (with the coach also having to bite his lip at times).
I hope all who took part had a great mornings hockey and we will try and do more of these tournaments in future. Also a special thanks to the parents for being taxi’s, supporters and especially those who helped to run the substitutions/manage the times at game time (don’t go applying for the vacancy at ITFC – we need you) and ensuring that no one fell victim to the tropical sun as it certainly felt like it was 30oC on the pitch come high noon. Things certainly look positive for the juniors but this is only just the beginning.
Thanks again and see you all on Sunday for more fun and games.
