Ex-Wanderers captain involved in horrific accident

Ipswich Wanderers would like to send their best wishes to former club captain Gavin Frost after he was involved in a horrific accident at work this weekend.

Gavin was rushed to Ipswich hospital with life-threatening injuries on Saturday morning, after he was struck by a digger in an industrial accident at work and knocked down a 20ft hole.

The former Midfielder was admitted with a suspected fractured skull, a punctured lung, broken ribs and a smashed arm, as well as serious facial injuries. He remains in a critical condition in hospital and is currently in an induced coma on a life support machine.

Wanderers chairman and friend of Gavin, Terry Fenwick, said: “I was absolutely devastated to hear the news about Frosty. He’s such a lovely bloke and was a great leader when captain of our club. Everybody at the club wants to wish him a full and speedy recovery.”

The incident was so serious that the Essex Air Ambulance and the regions hazardous area response team were deployed, while the East of England Ambulance Service also sent an ambulance and rapid response car to the incident, which was at Fentons Way in Kesgrave.

On arrival at the scene on Saturday, ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "We believe the man was struck by a digger then he fell down a hole approximately 20 feet in the ground. Paramedics who were first at the scene found he sustained serious facial injuries which were deemed potentially life threatening."

Frost has also played previously for Woodbridge Town and Felixstowe & Walton United amongst others, with his latest club being Ransomes Sports in the SIL.

All players, management, committee and supporters would like to wish Frosty a full and speedy recovery.

I would like to wish Gavin a full and quick recovery. He is a fine footballer. I recall being asked who my Wanderers man of the match was at Bury near the start of the season and had no hesitation in naming Gavin. When the news of the accident began to filter through at Saturday's game, you certainly realise that human life and health are more important in the great scheme of things. All the best Gavin.
