Pre-season Newsletter

The following thoughts and ideas are from the pre-season meeting which took place on the 16/01/2016

Junior volunteers

For the club to develop and be successful a junior section is a must. The past couple of years has seen the club starting from scratch, this has left the section short on coaching and volunteers to help with the running of a number of junior teams. For the junior section to be successful the club requires volunteers to help in the running of training sessions and matches. Whether you’re a player, club member or parent your help would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested please contact Ryan Lowery or Colin Rook for more information.

Club Sponsorship

The club is actively seeking local businesses for sponsorship. A sponsorship package is being drafted which will give businesses the opportunity to sponsor us for the upcoming season. Your help would be appreciated in the spreading the word around local businesses. Examples of what they could sponsor are below.
• Match Balls
• Match Days
• Playing Kits
• Advertising Boards

If you require a copy of the sponsorship packages please contact Ryan Lowery.

Ground work

With the season fast approaching, preparation on the ground/wicket is already starting. A few helping hands will be required before match days to ensure the ground is at the correct standard. This could be managed on an alternating rota, so that each member of the team would help out at least once during the season. This can be discussed in more detail when we start pre-season training.

Training

There have been many questions on when and where are going to train this pre- season. There has been mention of an early start for fitness training. The cricket side of training has seen us approach Irlam high school again, however the local council has now banned hard cricket balls from sports halls so it looks as though this is not an option.
Old Trafford indoor nets have also been contacted for availability and as soon as we have confirmation of dates players will be asked to confirm if they can attend before booking.

20 20 friendlies

Over the past year or two, there has been talk of players wanting to take part in the 20 over format. In the GMCL newsletter there was a point on organizing of a local 20 20 league to be played on Friday nights. As a club we have decided this will not be an option for us, as we already struggle to raise a full team for Saturdays. If players are still interested during the season and we can raise a team there is the option of contacting other teams to arrange a friendly.

Membership

Memberships for the upcoming season will be £40 this must be payed to help with the running of club. This will include membership to Irlam steel works club. So as the pre-season starts it would be appreciated if you get the money to Colin Rook as soon as possible.

Fundraisers

As a club trying to develop we are constantly trying to upgrade parts of the facilities and training equipment etc. If we are to do this we need to find ways to raise funds. If any players, club members or parents have any ideas for fundraising activities could you please let us know. The money would go a long way into helping us buy a new electronic scoreboard and mobile practice net.

Team for the first game

The first game of the season will take place on Saturday 16th April. At the moment it looks as though we will be short on numbers, due to several players being unavailable. Can everyone who is available to play in this first game please let Ryan Lowery know.

Thanks for your time
