Pollitt seals the win at Victoria Park

An 87th minute strike from Irlam forward Liam Pollitt was enough to steal the points away from Victoria Park in the Hallmark Premier Division, Irlam putting three points on the board at last after a series of respectable draws in recent weeks .
An earlier goal, via the penalty spot was converted by Karl Cassell after Jordan Buckley's run on goal came to end, the Irlam striker cut down in the home sides penalty area.
A fantastic run and shot by Pollitt extended Irlam's lead as the score moved to 2-0.
A late consolation goal came via a quick free kick from Brady, the Burscough forward spotting a gap at Irlam's near post to drive low and hard, a deflection taking it past Jones in the Irlam goal.
A game of two halves saw the home side look to capitalise on their 5-1 thrashing of Alsager Town in the Vase at the weekend, pushing Irlam back into their own half as they searched for an early opener.
On 22 minutes. Irlam keeper Dave Jones made a great save to deny Burscough a certain opener, but despite Irlam struggling to keep the ball for any length of time, a back four of Amado, Cassell , Ledson and Bolton ensured Irlam stayed firm at the back.
On 35 minutes, the match official got it wrong as Foulds was bundled to the ground as he collected a ball from Danny Eyres, the home side getting away with one as the HT whistle blew.
HT 0-0
A much more accomplished performance from Irlam in the second period would eventually send the team on for the win, Foulds denied on 55 mins from an amazing stop from Burscough's keeper, on loan from AFC Fylde. Eyres was next up, a snapshot from the Irlam midfielder finding the arms of the home keeper..
Minute later the pressure would tell, and when an early ball out sent Irlam forward Buckley in behind for a certain goal, the Burscough defence had no choice but to bring the Irlam no 9 down, a penalty converted by Cassell to open the scoring.
Buckley would try his luck soon after, a turn and strike ably saved again by Burscough's on loan keeper.
Irlam striker Liam Pollitt entered the game on 75 minutes, and would have an immediate effect against the now tiring Burscough players, the Irlam striker immediately firing low to draw out another save as Irlam turned the screw.
However, with 5 minutes left. Pollitt was on hand to pounce on a loose ball, the Irlam forward bursting through the Burscough defence before confidently rifling the ball past the stranded keeper to make it 2-0.
In the dying minutes, a late consolation goal for the home side via a free kick was deserved given their efforts on the night, but on the final whistle the 3 points would head back to the Ambitek Stadium
