Stalemate at the Ambitek Rec
With both Clubs coming into this game tied on 14 points, and to a certain extent both Clubs rediscovering their league form after exciting FA Cup campaigns, it was always going to be a tight affair as Silver St.
As the final scoreline would show, a goalless result was the outcome, with chances few and far between as both sides settled for a respectable a point apiece at the Ambitek Stadium.
A windy day would also add to the difficulties for both players as chances were lost at either end.
The main chance of the half would fall to Irlam's Liam Pollitt, the Irlam forward through on goal for what looked like a simple finish, Pollitt electing to pass across to Boland who was fractionally offside, a massive chance to seize the lead.
The second period would produce only slightly better opportunities for either side, Danny Eyres with a quick shot that just went wide was followed up by Irlam full back Eddie Griffiths, a great run and cross from the left scrambled away for a corner when so much more may have come from the move.
The game momentarily exploded into action in the 75th minute when Ashton saw their chance to take the lead, a goalmouth scramble which saw the visitors strike the Irlam bar twice from 5 yards out as Irlam somehow managed to scramble the ball away.
Immediately after, at the other end Irlam forward drove into the Ashton penalty area for what looked like the opening goal, only to see the well struck shot rising quickly and ricochet off the crossbar, both sides suffering bad luck within minutes.
The game would revert back to a tight affair once again, Marcus Perry providing late hope for Irlam as he got sight of goal, only for the Irlam forwards shot to lack power as the final whistle put an end to affairs
