A night of drama at the Ambitek Stadium

IRLAM FC's talented young players were reminded again that The North West Counties Premier Division can be unpredictable,on a night of high drama at the Ambitek Stadium.
With Irlam three goals to the good without reply with 15 minutes to go, courtesy of strikes from Haydn Foulds, Matty Boland and Marcus Perry, the game seemed out of sight for the visitors. It was not to be, and Silsden, sitting at the top of the Division somehow managed to bring the scores level, a final scoreline of 3-3 underlining the quality of the visiting side, and not in any way a reflection of the home side. The draw continues a run of disappointing results so far at home, two draws and a defeat that does not reflect the excellent performances IRLAM have put in so far at the Ambitek Stadium.
The chances and opportunities to score in the game for IRLAM are too numerous to mention as wave after wave of attacks poured over the Silsden defence, Morrison and Doyle were absolutely first class as their passing and breaking up of play in Irlam's midfield meant that the visitors spent their efforts trying to get our of their own half. Irlam winger Marcus Perry, having one of his best performances since joining the Club was simply unplayable throughout the game, a catalyst for what looked to be a successful evening for Irlam.
It was from the boot of Perry that the opener would come, a trademark run from the no7 saw Perry lose his marker before picking out Irlam striker Haydn Foulds, the no9 striking well at the near post to open the scoring with just six minutes on the clock. Soon after Foulds would get another chance to score, this time the ball just slightly behind the striker as the chance went begging.
Perry would try his luck again in the first half, a quick change of direction putting him on his left foot, the shot powerful but lacking direction as the one goal lead remained intact at the break.

As expected, the visitors came out like a train in the second half, but it was Irlam who were to have the first chance on goal when Foulds miscued at the far post after Perry's driven in ball had the visitors in disarray. On 55 mins, Silsden player Reece Kendal would cause panic in the Irlam penalty area as his header was cleared off the line to keep the one goal lead intact.
Minutes later Irlam striker Jordan Buckley pushed the ball around the oncoming Silsden keeper, only to see the chance agonisingly hit the post and go out to safety. It would be the last action for Buckley, a troublesome groin injury ending his involvement on the night.
On 63 minutes Irlam were celebrating again, a second goal served up in fine style, Morrison bending a ball in behind the Silsden back four for Perry to run onto, the Irlam winger cutting the ball back for Matty Boland who finished sublimely, a shot on the move that found the net before Lee could react in the Silsden goal.
Ten minute later and Marcus Perry would certainly seal his nomination for the man of the match award, the winger again in behind his full back, who this time left him to it as Perry bore down on goal before lifting the ball over the oncoming keeper to make it 3-0 amid great celebrations from the home crowd.
On 78 minutes the visitors would reply, Irlam exposed by a perfect cross field pass, that was chested down by Hancock into the path of Lee Spires who fired home to get one back for Silsden.
The game still looked to be Irlam's, but on 90 minutes a corner to Silsden was met by Luke Rhodes, the substitute firing goalwards, the shot blocked, the ball however taking the cruellest of deflections to loop over White in the Irlam goal to make it 3-2 in added time.
What followed would underline the quality of the visitors, Silsden loading Irlam's penalty area for a final free kick saw Irlam keeper White arrive late to punch the ball away at the near post, a collision with a Silsden player giving the match official no choice but to award a penalty, coolly dispatched by Aidan Kirby to give Silsden a share of the points on a night to remember, and also a night to forget.
