S1/S2 Birkmyre

Good game strong Irvine team.

Well done to IRFC S1/S2 combined team, an unfortunatel loss today boys but well done. It was agreed between the coaches before the start of the game that scrums would be uncontested, due to Birkmyre being unable to field a front row, because of this Irvine needed to restructure their game which was previoulsy focused around forward play. The game got off to a poor start for Irvine, within the first few minuites, Birkmyre scored a try through an unsuspecting Irvine defensive line. The boys regrouped themselves but again only a few minuites later a try was again scored, breaking through ineffective irvine defence.
This time Irvine fought back well, with a break from IRFC No.8 smashing through the Birkmyre defence, passing to No.10 who scored an excellent try. Tis was followed by another try from Irvines No.8 who handed off 3 players to score a convincing try.
Unfortunately Irvine suffered four injuries in the next few phases of play, which left the back line depleated and for the next 10 minuites Irvine played extremely well with only 12 players, until the matter was raised and rectified by the referee.
Birkmyre realised that most of the play was going through No.8 and No.10 combination, which seemed to be effective but both players were targeted, unfortunately the lack of a scrum half due to injury was obvious. two more tries were scored by Birkmyre, before another try by Irvines second row.
Unfortunately the game was then a series of carbon copy tries as the Irvine defence was poor and tackling innefective, resulting in a final two tries to Birkmyre.
Thanks to the Irvine U15 boys who supported the boys today, particularly brian Kelly who assisted in the motivation of the boys and to Brian Wilson.
The game was marred by the fact that the boys could not play the type of rugby they wanted to due to the forwards issues and the Birkmyre supporters at the side of the park who verbally abused our players, this may not have been the case if Irvine had a similar level of support. Its quite a sad day when the opposition can produce more away support than the home team. Boys get your parents down to the club and support your game, you deserve it.
Well done today and remember training is on Wednesday at the club. Proud of you lads. Donald
