Hard fought festival in sunny Exmouth
Four hard games awaited the Ivybridge Under 10s at the Exmouth Festival. The first against Exmouth was a very close tie, with hard tackling from both sides. Joe scored the opening Try after being released to run half the pitch by a well-timed ball from Will C; and Josiah got a second from one of his characteristically tenacious runs up the wing, closely supported by Jack S – but Exmouth were able to claw two back to leave the game 10-10 at the whistle. Next came a game against the touring Farnham B team. Billy claimed a beautiful Try as he made an elegant solo run, scything through the opposition and Tobin scored a second working around the fringes of an Ivy Scrum. Unfortunately Farnham B snuck three past Ivybridge, and with two more Try attempts by Ivy not grounded to the referee’s satisfaction the game was a narrow 10-15 loss. A second game against Farnham – this time their A team – delivered another Try for Billy who was in fine form throughout the day. Tom and Alex G scored two more, and again two further Try attempts were disallowed, delivering a 15-15 tie. The final game was against Exeter Chiefs and a 20-0 loss did not reflect a good game with hard tackling from Will B and Jack B and perhaps the best scrummaging Ivy had displayed all season from Sam, Will M, Jaye - and Alex G who had a great festival across all aspects of the game. The Easter break will offer a well-earned rest for the boys, before a busy final month of the season with plenty of good rugby still to play.
