Looking to improve away at Lydney
Having been been beaten by Dings Crusaders and Exmouth in our opening two games now travelling away toRegentsholme a ground we have never won at yet.
But player-coach Lewis Paterson believes a tough trip to Gloucestershire could be just what we needs.
Lydney are also looking for their first win of the season after losing to Newbury Blues and Exmouth. This will be their first home game so they are bound to be very up for a win.
“I don’t think we have won away at Lydney,” said Paterson. “We had a close game with them last year. We know what to expect. It is a very hostile place, but in a way it’s a good place to go after last week. We just really need to focus on ourselves.”
So far this season we have conceded 95 points in our opening two league games and last week were handed out three yellow cards.
This week we see a few changes with George Wilson no longer available, and captain Matt Finn away on a stag weekend. Charlie Briant has come back in as full back after being unavailable last week, Tom Scoles moves to the wing and Billy Pinkus drops to the 2XV along with Sean Disney.
Experienced fly-half Matt Grieveson comes back into their team and Mitch Pinkus goes on the bench. Young Wes Vermigle get his first start in the front row having come on as a replacement in the first two league games. Aidan Taylor takes a place on the bench along with another experienced 1XV player Hayden Coles. Marcus Prout takes Wilson's place in the back row.
Lewis and Trips have made a few changes in training in this week and hopefully they will come to fruition on the field.
“But we have addressed the fact that Exmouth and Dings are two very good teams. Exmouth were playing National Two last year and Dings just failed to get promotion (lost in the play-offs), but are pushing for it this year. They are two massive sides, but I still think we are contenders, especially with the talent we have in our squad. We are going up to Lydney looking to get a win. We need to improve on our defence and discipline. Hopefully, this game will be better and the result comes with it. We just have to look at ourselves and our performance. If we do that the result will come.” Lewis commented further.
