Under 12 - Match centre

Sun 1 Apr 11:00 - Friendly

A hard fought win!

After the success of the team on tour it was up to the moor for some home grown attrition. Ivy played up hill in the first half on a small pitch that suited the home side. This being a good test for Ivy against a well organised defence in the absence of some of their experienced rucking players. It was Tavi that opened the scoring and showed initial dominance. Home advantage was being exploited as were some of the offside decisions. The conversion being missed, but an early advantage for the home side with vocal support from the crowd. Ivy stemmed the flow and set about upping the pressure on Tavi's back line. It was this pressure that payed off with Will Lamont breaking the line and scoring, Michael Puleston converting. Ivy led 5-7 at the break. A change of players and the benefit of the slope resulted in quicker ball, at speed and Ivy were back to full flow but using the centre of the park as opposed to the width. To the fore were Johnny Parr, Oliver Davy and Charlie Rowe who all put in fine performances. In particular Rowe who tackled well and was solid in the scrum. The lead was consolidated by Ivy after Ben Payne broke loose, taking on the opposing fly half and managing to provide a one handed off load to Alec Gregory, who side stepped and casually put the ball down over the line. The try of the match being saved till last was a superb break by Lamont in his own half forging through and slipping it out to the wing, Dan Skeemer. Skeemer, who made up for earlier handling errors, made a magnificent run with a perfect off load to Lamont who was supporting. Lamont showed a clean pairs of heels to the chasing Tavi players and Ivy were home and dry. The final score being 12-21. Man of the match. Charlie Rowe for his unflinching determination in the scrum.
